At a pet shop there were ten more dogs than cats. The shop sold 2 dogs and bought 2 cats. Now there are twice as many dogs than cats. How many cats does the shop now?

Sagot :

the shop had 2 cats because if you minus10 to 2 the answer is 8 and they buy 2 cats so there are 2 cats

Before buying cats, and selling dogs:
 Let cats be x
      dogs b x + 10

After:
Selling 2 dogs:  x + 10 - 2  or x + 8
Buying 2 cats :  x + 2

2 (x + 2) = x + 8
2x + 4 = x + 8
2x - x = 8 - 4
x = 4

The shop now have:  X + 2
                               4 + 2
                               = 6 cats, Final answer

To check how many dogs:
X + 2 = 4 + 2 = 6 cats
X + 8 = 4 + 8 = 12 dogs

The hidden  question the dogs are now twice the number of cats
Cats = 6
Dogs= 2 (6) = 12
