take for an example: 2/5 - 3/8
their LCD is 40. then 40 ÷ 5(denominator of the 1st fract.) × 2 (numerator of the 1st fract.) =16 then copy 40 as its denominator so it becomes 16/40
After performing the first fraction, the second fraction next.
40÷8 ×3 = 15/40.
Lastly, subtract the fractions. 16/40 - 15/40. because their denominator was already the same, just simply subtract their numerator and copy the denominator. the answer is 1/40.
