A tortoise has a generally amazing way of adapting to its environment. An average tortoise weighs 8-15 lbs., 9-15 inches long, and 4-6 inches in height. They have a life span of 80-100 years.

It survives in hot temperatures by burrowing its way into the ground where it is cooler.
