Elongation factor-1α (EF-1α) is another commonly sequenced gene in myxomycetes. Furthermore, primers can be designed across an insertion that is found solely in animals and fungi (Baldauf and Palmer, 1993), thereby eliminating any contamination by fungal or animal DNA (Fiore-Donno et al., 2005).
