The optical microscopes have four types of objectives lens which is the scanning lens, LPO, HPO and oil immersion lens. High Power Objectives or HPO magnifies an objects 40x. This means that if the objectives lens is 10x, the magnification of HPO is 400x.

The following is the advantages of using HPO:

  • Higher magnification in a standard level.  
  • Useful in observing the fine detail of the specimens.

The higher magnification of the HPO allows an observer to see the fine details of the specimen. This is suitable to use when observing specimen such as the striations in the skeletal muscle.
