There are only four things that I know of to focus on.

1.Draw every single day.

2 Get instruction in composition and color theory.

3.Look at a great deal of art - historical and contemporary.

4.Get out of the studio and have a very large life - travel and experience people, social levels and as much of your emotional range as you can. You will only be able to paint from what you know and who you are.
