Mrs. Santos bought 9 and 1/8 meters of curtain cloth. She used 3 and 5/6 meters to make curtain for the master's bedroom window. How many meters of cloth were not used? To find out, we subtract 3 and 5/6 from 9 and 1/8.

find the LCD      Rename dissimilar mixed   compare the 
 9 1/8                  numbers to equivalent           fraction in the
-3 5/6                 mixed numbers using LCD  minuend and the
LCD=24           9 1/8= 9 1 x 3= 9 3                    subtrahend. Rename

                         -3 5/6= 3 5 x 4=3 20                    minuend.
