One of the evidences that shows Filipinos are literate in numbers is seen at markets. Filipino vendors are very good at calculating specially in telling how much a customer would pay if he/she happens to buy a 100 gram onion or 400 grams of garlic at a certain price , thinking that they are elementary undergraduates.
Another evidence is having won math quizzes or Math Expos and any forms of Math Competition held abroad. Math Literacy in the Philippines is also not on the bottom line.
Most Filipinos specially the young ones are taught to count 1-10 by their parents at two years old. It is then very clear that Filipinos knows how to read and count numbers even at a very young age.
