Five students went on a trip to the north of Luzon. They traveled at an average of 40 km/h in 3 hours before taking snack at Mang Donald’s. On the second leg of the trip, they traveled at an average of 20 m/s in 2 hours before taking a coffee break at Starbox. Then finally they traveled at an average of 60 ft/s in 1 1/2 hours before reaching their “final destination”. What was the total distance they covered in miles?

Sagot :

Given:
         first trip:   40 km/h in 3 hours
    second trip:   20 m/s in 2 hours
        third trip:   60 ft/s in 1.5 hours

Asked:
           Total distance covered in miles
Solution:
Formula:
              Rate x Time = Distance
  1.)   40 km/h x 3 hours = 120 km
  2.)   20 m/s x 2 hours = 20 m/s x 120 minutes = 20 meters/s x 7, 200 seconds                                         = 144, 000 meters
  3.) 60 ft/s x 1.5 hours = 60 ft/s x 90 minutes = 60 ft/s x 5, 400 seconds
                                    = 324, 000 feet

> 120 km + 144, 000 meters + 324, 000 feet =
(Convert to miles, I just rounded it off to the nearest whole number)
> 75 miles + 89 miles +  61 miles
        = 225 miles
The total distance they traveled is 225 miles.
( I am not 100% sure but this is what I did when I encountered this kind of question, good luck)
