It is a manuscript that had an unknown writing system. It was made in the Italian Renaissance in Northern Italy. It was named after Wilfrid Voynich, a Polish book dealer of 1912. Some pages were missing and about 240 remain. The greatest cryptographers and code-breakers try to decipher text, but fail. Most pages have very mysterious and peculiar illustrations and graphics. It was donated by Hans P. Kraus to Yale University. Until today, the Voynich Manuscript still is a mystery and it's scripted (running from left to right) characters are still very much unsolved.
Hope this helps :D
