A volcano is considered as a mountain which has its opening that extends down between the crust and mantle of the Earth that contains magma. Magma consists of molted rocks that is stored beneath the Earth's surface. Volcanoes erupt when the magma works its way up to the upper surface of the Earth. Magma can rise when the tectonic plates of the Earth slowly move away from each other and it may also rise when these tectonic plates move towards one another.
The word volcano is derived from a volcanic island in the Aeolian Islands in Italy which was Vulcano which means, the god of fire in Roman Mythology.
