Let us define electric circuit.

Electric circuit is a line or a path where electric current flows; it can be closed or open.

Closed circuit makes a loop since the flow of current will start at a certain point and it will flow all throughout the path until it goes back to the starting point. On the other hand, open circuit contains a broken path because it is cut short. There will be no flow of electric current in this kind of circuit.

The 2 types of electric circuit along with their definition are as follows:

Parallel circuit - contains more than one path or branches; if there will be a break in the circuit, current can still flow on the other branches/ path
Series circuit - contains only one path; if there will be a break in the circuit, the flow of current in the whole loop will be cut off
