how to multiply fractions

Sagot :

just multiply the numerators and denominators together...

example: 7/8 X 6/5 = multiply 7 and 6 together which will give you 42
then multiply 8 and 5 together which will give you 40...

then the answer is 42/40...
if you would like to turn it into a mix number.. simply divide.. the dividend is 42, which is the numerator, and the divisor is 40, which is the denominator...

then it will give you an answer of 1 and a remainder of 2...

the 1 will serve as your whole number, the 2 will serve as your numerator and the denominator would be the denominator from the first equation which is 40...

the mix number would be 1 and 2/40...

you would notice that the fraction are both divisible by 2 ( you will know by simply getting their GCF or greatest common factor)... so you multiply both numerator and denominator by 2 which will give you 1/20... since you cannot simplify it any longer then your final answer would be 1 and 1/20 (mixed number) or 42/40 (improper fraction)

hope you understand... :)
