Using substitution method, what's the answer of 3x + 2y = -17 and 2x - 5y = 14 (steps by steps please)

Sagot :

3x + 2y = -17 2x - 5y = 14
3x+2y=-17
2y=-17-3x
y=(-17-3x)/2

2x-5y=14
2x-5[(-17-3x)/2]=14 ->substitute the value of y
2x+(85/2)+(15x/2)=14
2x+(15x/2)=14-(85/2)
(4x+15x)/2=(28-85)/2
use the cross product
19x/2=-57/2
-114=38x
-3=x

use the other equation which is
3x+2y=-17
substitute the value for x which is -3
3(-3)+2y=-17
2y=-17+9
2y=-8
y=-4

Final answer:
x=-3
y=-4

Then check if it is equal :D

:D :D
for the first inequality

3x + 2y = -17

if x=0
3(0) + 2y = -17
2y=-17
2y/2 = -17/2
y= -8 1/2

if y=0
3x + 2(0) = -17
3x= -17
3x/3 = -17/3
x= -5 2/3

thats for the fist inequality.... and for the second, why dont you try to answer it..?? :) :) :)
