Article IV Section IV of the 1986 Philippine Constitution states that “citizens of the Philippines who marry aliens shall retain their citizenship, unless by their act or omission, they are deemed, under the law, to have renounced it.”
This section means that a Filipino will remain to be a Filipino citizen no matter what the citizenship of to whomever he or she is married to. However, a Filipino may renounce his Filipino citizenship voluntarily.
