How to divide dissimilar fractions??

Sagot :

You multiply the fraction on the left to the reciprocal of the one on the right.

Example:

1) 2/5 ÷ 1/3 = 2/5 × 3/1 = 6/5 = 1 1/5

****The reciprocal is the fraction flipped/turned upside down, meaning the denominator is put on the top while the numerator is placed at the bottom.

Examples:

1/4 = 4/1
5/8 = 8/5

Here is the step:
1/2 divide by 1/4

1. Reverse the numbers of the fractions on the right. Here is result:
1/2 * 4/1

2. Do cross-multiplying if needed. (If cross-multiplying is needed, GCF of it is to be divided to it.)
Result:
1/1 * 2/1

3. Multiply it end to end. Answer? 2/1 = 2
