This is what happened. Ko - Ngai died after jumping into the flooding metal and her father was spared from the supposed punishment for not making a bell with a glow of pure metal  and white.

The story of "The Soul of The Great Bell" is a very sad tale of a young lady named Ko - Ngai that had sacrificed her life for her father's sake. Kouan - Yu, Ko - Ngai's father had to make a great bell as commanded by Yong Lo, the son of the Ming Dynasty.  Since he had failed twice and if they fail for the third time, he will surely be punished to death. Ko - Ngai after learning these things jumped into the flood metal. Her dad and the rest of the laborers were able to finish the bell which gold seemed purer and whiter than before, but instead of being happy Kouan - Yu cried a lot because of what happened to her daughter Ko - Ngai.

The story reflects how much a certain daughter like Ko - Ngai love his father that she would sacrifice her own life just to spare his father's life. This is more than the respect that most parents would want their children to provide them. This is such a very selfless love which most of us must learn.
