If I were one of the Geats, I would tell Beowulf how thankful I am for him fighting Grendel. He would be considered a hero and his tale to be told for generations. The Geats should also given him appropriate gifts, a he became their King later on. Apart from this, he should be given respect and love as leader and someone who defeated a very scary monster. Below are some more information.
Real Life Geat
They are sometimes called Goths and they are a tribe who inhabited Gotaland. This is now part of modern day Sweden. The earliest mentions of the Geats were in Ptolemy who called them Goutai. Beowulf and the Geats
When King Hrothgar faced the Grendel problem, he was already too old to deal with it. He was saved, however by a young Geat, Beowulf when he offered his hand to help. Upon killing Grendel, he was thrown a party but many of the party-goers were also killed by Grendel's mother. A second battle ensued and we can see here how loyal his Geat warriors were, for not leaving him despite him being taken for dead by the Danish warriors.
