Producers are organisms which can create their own food. Plants are the most common type of organisms which are considered to be producers. Producers are also considered to be autotrophic. These organisms produce their own food using light, water, carbon dioxide and other chemicals.
Plants, as examples of producers, self-feed through photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the most common process in creating food and is the most common way by plants.
Other examples are:
- Algae
- Phytoplanktons
- Some bacteria
Some autotrophs, use chemosynthesis aside from photosynthesis. Organisms that perform chemosynthesis does not use solar energy use chemical reactions instead in creating their food, mostly by combining hydrogen sulfide and/or methane with oxygen. Examples of these are organisms which lives in the hydrothermal vents.
