The Himalayas were created because two huge pieces of the Earth's outer shell, called plates, crashed into each other. One plate, the Indian Plate, was moving north and bumped into the Eurasian Plate. When these two plates met, they couldn’t sink into each other because they are both too thick and strong.
Instead of sinking, the plates pushed against each other, making the land fold and rise up to form the Himalayas. It’s like when two cars crash into each other and their fronts crumple up.
