Matter is anything around you that possesses volume (when the three dimensions are filled up which are usually the length, width, and height) that takes up any space and has mass (it is usually definite and only affected by gravity). Matter can take the form of solids, which have molecules that are compact; liquids which have molecules that are still connected to each other but has a bit of space that allows them to move freely pass one another; gas, where the molecules are freely moving on their own and are not connected to one another; plasma, which is just gas that has been heated to a high temperature and it becomes negatively charged. All of those take up space, even on a minuscule or microscopic level, therefore, having volume and each molecule has mass making matter have a collective total of the mass of all molecule.
