→ Geological time is not divided into equal periods precisely because of the criteria that scientists have adopted to establish them. Thus, the criterion used is usually some historical or landmark event that began or ended at the time, such as the formation of Pangea, mass extinctions, environmental imbalances, and such events. That way, as the division uses marks caused by nature, it cannot be divided into equal and neat periods!
