The sand, silt and clay are the three basic types of soil. However, most of the soils are a combination of these three main types of soil. How the soil look and feel when touched depends on how they mix well.

The type of soil that holds the least amount of water is the sand. This is because sand is fairly coarse an loose making the water drain through it easily.

On the other hand, the type of soil that holds the most amount of water is the clay. The clay has a small particles leaving the water small or little space to circulate.
