Why does a gamete produced during meiosis have half as many chromosomes as a daughter cell produced during mitosis?

Sagot :

since the chromosomes of these gametes will then be combined during fertilization these must possess half of the total number of chromosome to produce the same kind of organism as the parent, coz if the number is doubled  it wont be the same as the original so another kind of organism will be produced
