it depends on the operation. when its Addition, just add it. example 1 + 1/2=1 1/2.
When its subtraction, use the denominator of the fraction number as a whole in the whole number, example. 4 - 2/3=? you will use 3 as the denominator for the whole number and turn into fraction so it will become 3 3/3 (still its equal to 4) now you can subtract 3 3/3 - 2/3= 3 1/3. When its multiplication just put 1 as denominator of the whole number. e.g 3/4 x 4=? it will become 3/4 x 4/1= and multiply it directly. answer it in lowest term if needed. in division you just going to get the reciprocal of the divisor and the operation will become multiplication. e.g 3/4 / 2/3 =? so it wil become 3/4 x 3/2. and multiply it directly . :) hope you understand :)
