Direction: Using compass and straightedge, construct the perpendicular bisector of line segment JC below.

How to construct the perpendicular bisector of line segment JC:

1. Use a straightedge to draw line segment JC.

2. Adjust the compass that the needle point of the compass is at point J and the pencil tip will fall at a point more than halfway of the line segment JC.

3. With the compass setting used in step 2, place the needle point of the compass at the point J and draw an arc above and below the line segment JC.

4. With the same compass setting used in step 3, place the needle point of the compass at point C and make an arc above and below the line segment JC.

5. Label the point of intersection of the arc J in each half-plane with point D and point E.

6. Draw line DE.
