Sagot :
A PERSON BORN WITHOUT A THYMUS GLAND
- Thymus is an organ responsible for the production and development of cells of the immune system. It is also considered as a gland that secretes a hormone known as thymosin. Thymosin helps and influences the development and differentiation of T-cells in the thymus. These T-cells are white blood cell lymphocytes for immunity of the entire body. White blood cells serve as soldiers that attack and destroy destructive bacteria and viruses entering the human body and its parts.
- When a fetus inside a woman’s womb grows and develops, it also develops thymus gland that will prepare the baby’s body for possible attack of germs. As an individual matures, the thymus enables the body to produce certain antibodies. These antibodies attach themselves to a foreign antigen and weakening or destroying it so that infections will not spread within the body. When cells of the immune system weaken, microorganisms take this as an advantage to attack and spread infections and diseases. Our body will not let these things to happen, instead the thymus gland will double its effort to produce stronger and healthier T-cells.
- A person born without thymus cannot produce cells that help fight harmful microorganisms in the body. When these harmful microorganisms invade in the different cells, tissues and organs through blood, a person may expose to infections and diseases that can lead to death.
- If a person has a weak immune system, the microorganism has the opportunity to attack and destroy T-cells in every part of the body. When it happens, a disease will arise making that part susceptible to infection. Human body has the ability to fight infection but if it does not respond and recover an antibiotic prescribed by a professional doctor must be taken to neutralize and/or eliminate these harmful bacteria and viruses.
