The main focus of this theory is on how labels influence our behavior towards different groups. It focuses specifically on how we label ourselves and others based on their group membership. For example, if someone were born into an ethnic minority group, they would likely feel more comfortable associating themselves with members of their own group rather than with members of another group. This is referred to as internalized discrimination. If someone was born into an ethnic majority group, however, they may feel uncomfortable around people outside of their group.
