(x) (27-x) = 162
-x² + 27x = 162
-x² + 27x - 162 = 0
-1 ( -x² + 27x - 162 = 0) -1

x² - 27x + 162 = 0

Solve by factoring:
(x-9 ) (x-18) = 0

x - 9 = 0                x - 18 = 0
x = 9                     x = 18

The first number x ⇒   x = 18
second number is 27-x  ⇒  27-18 = 9

The numbers are 18 and 9.  
The ratio of two numbers is 18:9   or   2:1
