IMPLICATION OF THE "LOVE OF LABORED IS LOVE OF GOD

Work that is done without payment is referred to as a "labor of love." It's work that's driven by a sense of purpose, passion, or pleasure. "Remembering without stopping your... labor of love," says the King James Version of 1 Thessalonians 1:3, which is a literal translation of the ancient Greek, which is adequately reflected by the NIV's "labor spurred by love" translation.
What is the meaning of this phrase? The author of 1 Thessalonians, Paul, has traditionally been interpreted as clearly referring to Christian behaviors such as forgiving others or sharing the Gospel with non-believers. Limiting our "work" to such tasks, however, appears to be a bad idea. Furthermore, Paul later in 1 Thessalonians links love for others with an admonition to "work with your hands" since the Greek term translated here as "labor" denotes activity that needs substantial effort, what we'd call "hard work" (4:9-11). Manual labor, the job we do every day to sustain life, appears to be a part of the labor that arises from love.
