If the Dimension is perpendicular then the two parts of the object have to be at least 1.5X the length of the dimension, but if the Dimension is at an angle the distance between the 2 objects should be at least double the length of the dimension. But this means the total length of the dimension itself should be more than twice the length of the object you are trying to dimension. If I'm misunderstanding something let me know.
