I believe that instead of attempting to curate the types of art that we want to show off to the rest of the world — much like those who continue to promote Filipino artworks with a distinct Filipino flavor — art communities across the Philippines should stop being so insular and instead create venues for Filipino artists of all types to share and promote their works to the rest of the world.
However, because this isn't the case, most Filipino artists go independent or seek funding from overseas sources, then participate in contests and promotions there. Our own art groups will only recognize and appreciate them once they have gained international recognition.
