there were three major powers in the Philippines prior to the arrival of the Spaniards: Tondo, Maguindanao and Sulu; the latter two, to my knowledge, of Muslim faith.

As well, there were several minor kingdoms, similar to city-states, but with certain peculiarities, like Caboloan, Butuan, Cebu and Madja-as.

I understand too that there was a series of class systems in the country; for example the Maharlika would be noble feudal-like militarymen.
