Arachne was a young maiden turned into a spider by the Goddess Athena, she had lost a contest against the Goddess therefore suffered the consequences of not touching any loom or spindle. There have been many versions of this story, some include the exact opposite. Arachne won and made Athena jealous of her talent in weaving, but all befall on the same outcome of the spider.

There are also many types of conflicts known in a story, like so:

  • Man vs Self- the struggle of the protagonist to overcome his inner self
  • Man vs Nature-against the forces of nature like calamities and such
  • Man vs Man- a opposition against another human being, the classic hero villain type
  • Man vs Society-struggling of a Man in a society
  • Man vs Supernatural-against unforeseen forces or unknown creatures

In the story Arachne, the conflict was both Man vs Supernatural and Man vs Self. She was against a Goddess a supernatural being that surpasses other person by having unique abilities. Man vs Self Arachne too struggled to be the bigger person and avoid boasting without enough context.
