The pinpeat is the musical group or commonly known as orchestra that are tasked to perform the ceremonial music of the royal courts and temples of Cambodia. More often than not, this musical ensemble are composed of nine to ten instruments. Instruments are usually wind and percussion like xylophones and drums. The pinpeat traditionally accompanies court dances, masked and shadow plays, and religious ceremonies found in the courts and temples. Moreover, pinpeat is somehow similar to the musical ensemble in Thailand known as piphat.
