The first part of Mark 7 talks about tradition. In this chapter, they are talking about ritual purity, which has been the tradition of their fathers. But as we read, we understand that the Pharisees observed false traditions. Verse 6 states that the "people honoureth me with their lips, but their hearts far from me (Mark 7:6)." Although they were doing the traditions, they were inconsistent because they neglect the real reason as to why they do it. Thus in verses 18-20 (actually on verses 14-23), the Savior concentrated His disciples’ attention on the condition of one’s heart rather than the outward rituals.
