Love wave is a kind of surface wave in seismology. As
compared to body waves that travel through the Earth’s interior, surface waves
only travel through the crust.
Love waves move fastest among the other kinds of surface
waves and it move the ground from side-to-side (no vertical displacement) to
the direction the wave is traveling. The movement is said to be damaging to the
foundations of different structures.
This seismic wave was named after A.E.H. Love, a British
mathematician.
