Intonations indicate the pitch a person uses whenever he or she starts speaking or talking. Whenever the pitch is high it is either he is insisting something or asking a question and that is called Rising Intonation. But when the pitch is going to low it may be that he’s only saying a statement or a normal command to another person.

The rising intonation can be distinguished in a sentence when you read it. Like in most common use the question, when you ask something you can’t help but get your pitch high since you are requesting something that needs someone’s attention, and that it will be said in a way of asking a question.

Another example:

  • Are you going?

The rising intonation is on the last word.

The falling intonation mostly if the statement of a sentence is said in a neutral manner that mostly doesn’t use a high pitch.  

Another Example:

  • Are you going or not?

Just like the example from the rising intonation, a falling intonation can also be spotted whenever the sentence finishes, indicating that that was the end of the question or statement.
