The voltmeter (V) is connected in parallel with the device. The ammeter (A)
is connected in series in the circuit so that all current passing through the circuit
must pass through and be measured by the ammeter.
A voltmeter is place in parallel with the voltage source to recieve full voltage and must have a large resistance to limit it's effect on the circuit. An ammeter is placed in series to get the full current flowing through a branch and must have a small resistance to limit it effect on the circuit.
