Just like in any art form, learning to understand the principles of audio-visual art/animation is necessary especially if you want to have creative control on your work. Before experimenting, or “breaking the rules” in animation, its best to understand what you’re actually working with.
Fundamentals like principles are helpful to an artist because it helps them know how to solve compositional problems, making them able to focus on other creative aspects of the work, like the story or concept.
