From my perception of reading novels,the reading of novels is of no use if you are skiping those unknown words because they have their importance in that sentence otherwise why would those words have been there.
First all keep it in mind that searching for the meaning at instant is very important because that will nourish your vocabulary and would help you to grasp the actual meaning of that sentence .
Therefore I would infer that please quest the meaning at the moment when you get struck in the middle of a sentence . Moreover, I also do the same thing when i peruse the novel.
