Having worked in the criminal justice system for thirty years, I have seen so many repeat offenders come through our department. Minor offenses, are at times, penalized more than they should be and felony offenses are not always appropriately handled, generally the color of your skin gets one a harsher sentence. Technically, prison should be for rehabilitation, excluding serious offenders that are truly a risk to society. Undeniably, the prison system generates income so unfortunately more money is spent on building prisons instead of programs to truly rehabilitate and encourage change in individuals.
