Speed is a characteristic in motion. It is the distance travelled by a moving body per unit of time.
It indicates how fast a thing is moving. When the speed of a moving object is measured,
Distance and Time are measured in some units. The distance is expressed in meters while time
expressed in seconds.
Cars, trains and airplane travel long-distance for longer periods of time. To measure the speed at
which they travel the units used are kilometers for distance and hours for time. When we talk of
speed, we refer to average speed. Why? Do you notice that when you are riding in a jeep its
speed is not always the same? Sometimes it goes fast. Sometimes it goes slowly. Al other times,
it stops at an intersection when the traffic light is red or when a passenger alights. In computing
speed, we disregard the rests, stops, fast or slow movements. We consider the total distance
covered and the time it takes to travel the distance
Speed describes the rate of motion of an object. It is measured with a speedometer.
