In Filipino, proverbs are called salawikain or sawikain. They are brief instructive expressions that suggest aa specific action, behavior, or judgment. They also prescribe norms, impart a lesson, or emphasize traditions and beliefs in community.
Examples:
Walang ligaya sa lupa na di dinilig ng luha.
Ang kapalaran ko di ko man hanapin, dudulog lalapit kung talagang akin.
Walang utang na di pinagbabayaran.
