Sagot :

How did the Supremo treat Aguinaldo on the latter’s visit?

Expedition to Cavite

  • It started with an invitation . Bonifacio was apparently invited by the Cavite leaders to mediate the rivalry between the two regional chapters of the Katipunan, Magdalo and Magdiwang factions.

  • Bonifacio was a participant of the latter, although he recognized much of his authority. The former was composed mostly of the Cavite elite, whose name was the nom de guerre of Aguinaldo, stemming from Mary Magdalene, patroness of Aguinaldo's hometown of Kawit, whom he called the patroness of the revolution.

  • The secretary and right-hand man of Bonifacio, Emilio Jacinto, had cautioned him against this expedition to Cavite. The firebrand that he was, Bonifacio went, regardless, with his wife Gregoria, his brothers Procopio and Ciriaco, Jacinto, and some troops.

  • In Zapote, Aguinaldo encountered him. Later in his memoirs, Aguinaldo wrote that he was irritated by Bonifacio because he behaved "as if he were a king."

  • The two contested military tactics and, more seriously, the supposed agreements between Aguinaldo and the Spaniards, which might compromise the revolution. (Bonifacio has no record of any political settlement. Most definitely, Aguinaldo, an astute politician, was from the Spanish to the Americans to the Japanese.)

  • Aguinaldo also issued a manifesto declaring a provisional transitional government, in essence rejecting the existence of the Katipun government, which had constitutions, legislation and local governments.

Trial and death

  • It was a mock trial in the house of Teodorico Reyes (now a museum). Both those in the jury were the men of Aguinaldo. All the evidence was flimsy. Bonifacio was not allowed to confront his accusers. Sentence: death. Death.
  • Aguinaldo commuted his punishment to the banishment of the mountain of Pico de Loro. Apparently, his commanders, Mariano Noriel and Pio del Pilar, had prevailed to cancel the commutation, to preserve unity.
  • On May 10, 1897, apparently on the way to exile, Procopio was shot or bayonetized in a sugar cane field about 4 kilometers from the town (as one account says).
  • The "half-hungry and injured" Andres, vulnerable to a hammock, allegedly tried to escape, was stabbed and hacked to death by five men, led by Gen. Lazaro Macapagal, on the foothills of Mount Nagpatong, where now stands the Bonifacio Shrine and Monument, one of the city's main tourist destinations.
