In art and architecture, however, harmony does not always mean a total visual or even physical equilibrium of forms around a central point of the composition, but rather an arrangement of forms that evokes a sense of balance in viewers. In literature, equilibrium or harmony of elements is accomplished by the reconciliation of competing forces. Balance is one of the fundamental building blocks of visual representations and adds to their artistic effectiveness. Balance can be classified into many groups. The most often used terms in terms of vocabulary include asymmetrical equilibrium, symmetrical balance, and radial balance. These kinds of harmony can be seen in sculpture, architecture, and construction. Their application and production have a tradition as long as human history, but for this text, we will concentrate on the importance of harmony in art and design and include examples mostly from modern and contemporary art.
