1. A three-layer cake weighs half a kilogram per layer. In each layer, the cake is decorated with icing which weighs 100 g. A candle which weighs 250 g is added. What is the total weight in kilogram of the fully decorated cake?


2. A landscape is putting in a brick patio. The area of the patio is 110 square meters. If the brick measure 10 cm by 20 cm, how many bricks will it take to make the patio?

Sagot :

1. convert grams into kilograms
1kg = 1000g
100g x 1kg/1000g = 0.1kg
250g x 1kg/1000g = 0.25
total weight of cake
= 0.5kg + (0.1kg x3) + 0.25
total weight of the cake = 1.05kg

2. covert cm to meter 1m=100cm
10cmx1m/100cm = 0.1m
20cmx1m/100cm = 0.2m
solve for the area of the brick
0.1 x 0.2 = 0.02 square meter

# of brick = area of patio / area of brick
= 110 / 0.02
number of bricks = 5500pcs
