Comets were thought of as portents, usually of evil. Of course, living in the kind of world we do, something 'evil' was usually just around the corner to be 'foretold'! There are no superstitions I know of relating to asteroids, as they were only discovered at the beginning of the 19th century, and only visible through telescopes. Thus the people initially aware of asteroids (which are not visible to the naked eye in normal circumstances) were precisely those not inclined to be superstitious, ie scientists, astronomers, the well-educated etc.
