*Italicized sentences, or words down below are meant to show parts where Wordsworth demonstrates imagery. He uses visual imagery through out the poem in order to help the reader get an idea of what the speaker sees. The imagery helps the reader identify and relate to the poem, which makes the poem resonate with them.

*Bold sentences below the poem are an indication of “Personification”, Personification is critical to the poems view of nature and how powerful it is. Challenging the negative stigma around solitude and show solitude does not mean you are lonely.

*Other key literary devices are his use of allegory-a poem that can interpret to have another meaning, Wordsworth displays this by showing that nature and the daffodils are not just objects, but instead they represent happiness. He also uses allusion- a term used to show how a poet can make an indirect reference, it is designed to make the reader think about something with out being straight to the point. Wordsworth does this with the place in which this nature resides, it is used to convey a particular meaning, in this case how nature can make a person happy and provide them company.

I wandered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o’er vales and hills,

When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host, of golden daffodils;

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine

And twinkle on the milky way,

They stretched in never-ending line

Along the margin of a bay:

Ten thousand saw I at a glance,

Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they

Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:

A poet could not but be gay,

In such a jocund company:

I gazed—and gazed—but little thought

What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie

In vacant or in pensive mood,

They flash upon that inward eye

Which is the bliss of solitude;

And then my heart with pleasure fills,

And dances with the daffodils.
