Unbalanced forces
- Unbalanced forces are present when two forces acting on an object are not equal in size.
Unbalanced forces causes can cause:
- still object to move
- moving object to speed up or slow down
- moving object to stop
- moving object to change direction
A balanced force will not cause any change in motion. When a balanced force acts on an object which is at rest, the object will not move. However, if you will push against a wall, the wall will be pushing back with an equal but opposite force and neither the wall nor you will move. Force that causes a change in the motion of an object is an unbalanced force.
Common examples of unbalance forces include the force of gravity and applied forces. When these forces become unbalanced, objects will accelerate, changing their position and finding new configurations where which all forces will be again balanced.
